MDT Trains Five School Therapy Dogs for Berkley Schools

By Essential IT

Michael Burkey’s Michigan Dog Training (MDT) is privileged to undertake the training of five prospective School Therapy Dogs for the Berkley, Michigan School System, www.BerkleySchools.org. The dog teams are organized by Megan Ashkanani, Director of Teaching, Learning & Technology of the Berkley Schools.
On January 18, 2024, Michael meticulously assessed each dog and their handlers, all of whom are educators within the school system, to evaluate the suitability of the dogs for School Therapy Training. We are pleased to announce that all five dog teams successfully passed the evaluation!
Over the next 20 weeks, these teams will receive comprehensive professional instruction at MDT, both in public spaces and within Berkley School System classrooms. Upon completion of the program, the dog teams will be well-equipped to serve in classrooms as School Therapy Dog Teams, aiding students with their assignments, alleviating stress levels, and providing unwavering, unconditional support.
Stay updated on their training journey by visiting our Facebook page, www.FaceBook.com/MichiganDogTraining for regularly posted photos showcasing their progress.
We are excited about this meaningful initiative and look forward to the positive impact these School Therapy Dog Teams will have on the Berkley School System much like the 10 School Therapy Dog Teams Michael previously trained for the Novi, Michigan Consolidated Schools.
