A student recently asked me how best to clean carpets of pet stains. So I posed the question to the stain expert; another dog student of mine and a friend, Matt of “Doc & Ssons II”. They are a carpet and upholstery cleaning family owned business in Westland, Michigan. They service residential and commercial clients including all of the Red Robin restaurants in the state of Michigan and two in the state of Ohio.
Matt advised, “The best thing for them to do is just use cool water and a rag to blot the stain with and get as much of it up as possible. And then have a carpet cleaner come and treat the spot and extract it out. Otherwise, if they use to many soaps and other products on the spot, it will break down the protectant that is on all carpets and the spot will adhere to the carpet fiber and may never come out. Pet stains are tough but if gotten to right away, they can be manageable.”
Matt also said he has small spotting kits for home owners that come with 3 small bottles of different products for different types of stains. They run about $20.
