On January 29, 2024, four dogs earned their Canine Good Citizen titles at Michigan Dog Training in Plymouth, Michigan after completing their Canine Good Citizen dog training group class.
The successful dog handlers and dogs are: Jamison Tetreault and RONIN, a German Shepherd Dog of Canton, Michigan; 2. Quintana Schlichter and HONEY, a Golden Doodle of Canton, Michigan; 3. Karleen Kudej and RIVER, a Brittany/Poodle Mix of Livonia, Michigan; and Anne Cini and HAMILTON, an Aussie of Northville, Michigan.
To earn the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title, the dog had to:
- Remain calm while the evaluator approached them and spoke to the handler
- Sit politely for petting
- Be well groomed, accept grooming and picking up it’s front feet
- Walk on a loose leash following the handler’s left, right and about turns as well as come to a stop
- Walk through a crowd politely
- Sit and down on cue and stay in place while the handler walks 20 feet away and returns
- Come when called from a distance of 20 feet to its handler
- Remain calm when approaching another dog team
- Remain calm when being exposed to distractions such as a chair dropping, door closing loudly, a jogger running by, etc.
- Remain calm and under control of a stranger while its handler goes out of sight from the dog for three minutes
The dogs are now eligible to enhance their skills at the next dog training group class to prepare for the Advanced Canine Good Citizen test.Michael
